Chapter 53: Yellow Stripes
The journey to the transit facility was a somber occasion; even Thomas had picked up on the fact that something was happening, and he stayed quiet in his stroller. The building was a blend of rustic charm and modernity, fitting seamlessly with the town’s quaint yet advanced style. The exterior was crafted from warm, earth-toned bricks with large, arched windows that reflected the light and offered glimpses into the quiet interior. Winding vines grew up the sides, reaching towered and elegantly sloped roofs adorned with small solar panels. Two sets of automatic glass doors slid open, welcoming the party into a softly lit foyer with wooden benches and sleek digital kiosks. Flower beds lined the entryway, filled with native plants and colorful blooms that gave the place a welcoming, natural touch. Inside, a gentle hum of conversation mixed with the sound of soft chimes announcing various arrivals or departures to the sparsely populated building.
Daddy stepped up to a kiosk, and a kind-looking woman was behind it, smiling warmly. “Hello, can I help you?” she asked.
“Yes, we are checking in Hannah and Emily Ashford for transit today,” Daddy said, handing the woman a thick stack of paperwork.
The woman thumbed through the stack, nodding, “Right this way.” she said, turning and disappearing down a hallway.
The group meandered after the woman as she stepped inside what appeared to be an examination room, still looking through the stack of papers. “There are changes on the table for both girls; please change them and leave any pants off.”
Hannah glanced at the table, which resembled an examination table, and saw a shallow stack of thin diapers with a multitude of yellow stripes running down them. “What are they?” Daddy asked curiously, taking the top one.
“They are a part of the examination for their return; your girls must be potty trained for their return; if they have any accidents, these will show them. If they need to go potty, there’s one in the corner; your exam officer will be with you shortly.” The woman said, leaving the room and shutting the door behind her.
Daddy turned to the girls, shrugging and taking Emily first, laying her down and changing her into the garment. “Do you need to go potty first?” he asked.
Emily shook her head, “No, not yet.”
Daddy swiftly got her changed into the strange-looking diaper and then turned to Hannah, placing her on the table next. Daddy opened Hannah’s wet diaper, cleaning her with wet wipes from his diaper bag. “Do you need to go?” he asked.
Hannah shook her head, her heart racing. “No, I’m good, I think.”
Daddy nodded, lifting Hannah’s bum from her soiled diaper and placing it into the testing diaper, pulling the front up and pulling the tabs into place. He gave her a warm smile just as a doctor stepped into the room, clad in a white coat.
“Good afternoon!” the doctor said with a warm smile, “I’m Doctor Chase; I’ll be performing your exit examination today. Why don’t we start with you.” he said, stepping up to Hannah, “What’s your name?” he asked, his rubber-gloved fingers beginning the examination.
“I’m Hannah.” Hannah squeaked in surprise as the doctor laid her back, his fingers probing and feeling along her body from head to toe; even Hannah’s teeth didn’t escape his thorough exam!
“Perfect, and how old are you? Biologically.” Doctor Chase clarified.
“I’m 21 years old,” Hannah said as the doctor inspected her thighs and midsection, placing a stethoscope on Hannah’s chest.
The stethoscope was giant and cold! Far larger than any Hannah had seen back home, she squealed as it met her bare skin. “Cold!” she said, squirming.
The doctor smiled, “Sorry, sweetie, any preexisting medical conditions? Heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, incontinence, anything like that?”
Hannah shook her head as the doctor finished his exam, “No, nothing like that.”
The doctor nodded, gathering several things from a cabinet, “Vocal structure is good, vocabulary is strong, can you feed yourself?” he asked, presenting Hannah a plastic bowl full of cheerios and a spoon.
Hannah cocked her eyebrow but took the spoon, feeding herself. The doctor offered her a small plastic cup of water. She took the cup and drank. The doctor nodded again, lifting Hannah and setting her on her feet.
“Motor skills seem good; go ahead and walk around a little bit for me, please.” the doctor ordered.
Hannah awkwardly walked around the office, feeling silly. “Perfect, let’s get this cutie’s exam done, and then we’ll be just about done!” the doctor said, scooping Emily up and plopping her on the table.
Daddy helped Hannah up into a chair while the doctor repeated the steps for Emily. Hannah could see the blush on Emily’s face as the doctor probed her chest and between her thighs, ensuring she was in good health. After repeating the same tests, the doctor pulled out a small, pink plastic potty from the corner and plopped it beside the exam table. “Alright, Emily, you first,” he said, his hands on his hips as he watched her.
Emily looked from the potty to the crowd of people in the room, blushing madly. Realizing she wasn’t going to get help, her fingers awkwardly found the tabs of her diaper and released it, the doctor holding out a hand for it as she plopped herself on the potty and relieved herself. The doctor held out a large wipe for Emily to clean herself, much to her own, before offering her a pair of boring white panties. “Your test diaper is clean and dry, with no spotting or blue streaks. You are sufficiently potty trained.”
The doctor turned his attention to Hannah as Emily pulled the panties into place, a look of relief on her face. “Alright, Hannah, you next.”
Hannah felt her heart fluttering in anticipation. She slid down from the chair, approaching the potty, her fingers undoing the tabs of her diaper as the doctor took it from her. She didn’t even see if it was showing signs of being wet. Hannah sat, and after several agonizingly long seconds, she was able to produce a meager stream, her cheeks burning in shame.
The doctor nodded, turning the front of Hannah’s diaper toward her and the group, several of the yellow stripes having turned a shade of blue. “Hannah, however, doesn’t pass. If you’d like, Emily can make the transit today, but Hannah will need to try again next week.” the doctor said.
Hannah stared at the blue stripes, the words of the doctor fading as her vision fussed. Hannah felt as if time had stopped for that moment; she had failed, she couldn’t leave, she couldn’t go home. She hadn’t even felt the need to go. Would she ever be able to go home? Would she ever have control over herself again? Hannah was slammed with a typhoon of emotions, mostly fear and sadness; it seemed her family wouldn’t be seeing Hannah again for a long time. She has trapped her on an alien planet, and she wouldn’t even have the love and support of her sister to keep her going. Hannah would be at risk of being kidnapped; again, she would be on the run with Daddy for as long as it took. She wanted to weep, to cry, to beg; she was vaguely aware of the fact that Daddy was on his feet, an argument breaking out between him and the doctor.
The doctor remained stoic, shrugging as if there was nothing he could do. It wasn’t until Hannah heard, “Well, there is another way,” that she snapped out of her stupor.
“Please, anything, look, she’s terrified!” Daddy was saying, motioning to Hannah’s ashen face, still sitting on the pink potty.
“Well, in order for an un potty trained Little to transfer to Earth, they must be accompanied by an adult who can care for them.” The doctor was saying.
“But that’s impossible; Amazons can’t transfer across the portal,” Daddy said, Miss Kaylee, comforting a distraught Thomas.
“Correct.” The doctor replied.
“But, wasn’t this entire test to prove that I was capable of self-governance, of being an adult?” Emily asked, stepping up.
“Also, correct.” The doctor said with a smile.
Daddy and Emily shared a look before collectively looking back at Hannah. “If you can prove to be a sufficient caregiver, you could take her as your charge.” The doctor said.
Hannah glanced between the three, all looking at her, “What does that mean?” she asked.
Emily seemed to grasp her goal first, glancing around the room. She went to Daddy’s diaper bag, pulled forth the changing mat and changing supplies, and laid the mat on the floor. She came over to Hannah with a smile, “Come on, baby girl, let’s get you changed.” she said, helping Hannah stand.
Hannah felt as if she were in a dream. Emily pulled her towards the changing mat and laid her down, surrounded by giants who all watched with eager anticipation. Hannah felt as if the entire world were watching her; Emily applied a generous layer of baby powder, working Hannah’s hips into the thick diaper, pulling the tabs into place, and checking the leak guards. Emily turned to the doctor, “Good enough?” she asked, a look of hatred in her eyes scorning the doctor.
The doctor knelt beside Hannah, checking her diaper fit before nodding. “Yes, that will do nicely, Mommy Emily. I am releasing baby Hannah to your care, and you are both free to make the transfer.”
Hannah and Emily stared at the doctor, slack-jawed in surprise. That had actually worked? Hannah couldn’t believe it! “Wait, really?” Daddy asked in surprise, “That’s it?”
The doctor nodded, “Were you expecting more? We want to make sure Littles meet the bare minimum for self-care if they go to Earth; we aren’t expecting scholars.” he said with a smile. “Any belongings you have must be able to be carried or worn as a pack or sling; I’ll allow you two to get ready; a transfer tech will be with you shortly; you folks have a great day.” the doctor said, leaving them alone.
Emily turned to Hannah, and the girls stared at one another in stunned before Emily helped Hannah to her feet. “We did it,” she said softly.
Hannah burst into a grin, wrapping her arms around Emily, “We did it! We made it!” she squealed.
Both girls squealed in excitement; they were finally going home. All their fears and anxieties faded away as the prospect of heading home settled upon them. Hannah had been on an emotional rollercoaster since arriving on the planet; she had been forced into countless humiliating and embarrassing situations, and she had been punished and even freaking kidnapped. Finally, though, she was going to be able to return to normal.
“We’re really going home,” Emily said, pulling back from Hannah. The girls smiled before turning to Daddy, who sat there. A smile was on his lips, but his eyes were red, tears staining his cheeks.
“I am so beyond proud of both of you.” Daddy said, “I’m so happy for you, I can’t…” he trailed off.
Emily and Hannah’s embrace broke off as she ran over to him, hugging him. Daddy’s arms wrapped around both girls as silent sobs racked his body. Hannah felt him holding her tightly as if she were a life preserver in high swells. Hannah’s joy melted away, replaced with genuine heartbreak as she realized that she was leaving, leaving the one man who actually cared for her on this planet—the one man who loved them and wanted what was best for them. Hannah felt tears of her own forming as the three held a long embrace, “I’m sorry.” she whispered.
Daddy sniffled, leaning back, “Don’t be.” he instructed firmly, “This is the way things must be; it’s for the best.”
Emily nodded weakly, “Thank you for everything.”
Daddy smiled, wiping tears and releasing his embrace, “Oh, before I forget, you’ll want this.” he said, pulling out a Little-sized backpack from the diaper bag and handing it to Emily. “It has some changes in it, spare clothes, and some other souvenirs. There’s contact instructions for when you get home so we can chat,” he said, trying to put on a brave face once more as the door to the exam room opened.
To Hannah’s surprise, Miss Kaylee and Thomas both approached them next, hugging Hannah and Emily in turn. “I know we barely met, but I've grown fond of you two.” Miss Kaylee said, “I hope you both lead happy, healthy lives, and I hope to see you again.”
Hannah’s eyes misted as Miss Kaylee embraced her. She still wasn’t sure how she felt about the woman, but Hannah found little reason to distrust the woman; she had, after all, saved them. “Thank you for everything,” she said, glancing at Daddy.
Miss Kaylee followed her eyes, smiling and nodding. While Hannah may not trust her, she recognizes the fact that Daddy did and that she was a good influence on her. Thomas wrapped his arms around Hannah in a quick embrace, “Bye-bye!” he said with a goofy grin before plopping down on the floor.
Hannah giggled, returning his hug as the newcomer in the room spoke, a younger lady dressed in blue scrubs, “Sorry to break up the goodbyes, but our transfer window is closing soon if you want to make the jump today.”
The girls nodded, “We do.” Emily said.
The nurse nodded, “Alright, Mommy, if you’ll bring your baby with you, let’s get going.”
Emily grinned at Hannah, “Come on, baby.” she ordered.
Hannah found herself grinning as she wiped away tears, “Yes, Mommy.” she replied with a giggle.
Emily took Hannah’s hand as they left the room, following the nurse to a room that looked similar to Hannah’s original transfer to the Amazon planet. The nurse placed them in the center of the room, shutting the door behind her, and before Hannah or Emily had a chance to prepare, Hannah felt the familiar sensation of floating and then rocketing into the glass tunnel through the stars.
The trip back to Earth was just as long as their trip to the Amazon world; both girls gazed out in wonder at the planets and stars soaring past them at impossible speeds. The girls were gently reposted back on their feet as their ride came to an end, and a small reception area was greeting them. A receptionist greeted them, comparing photos of the girls, giving Hannah a hard look before returning their belongings and ushering them from the room.
Despite Hannah’s apprehension about taxis, it was their only mode of transportation back to her place, Emily having asked to crash there for the time being. After having been in the Amazon home world for so long, everything here felt so big. Hannah probably should have been more conscious of her massive, bulging diaper beneath her short sundress as it drooped ever lower, but she didn’t care; she didn’t mind the curious looks she received as they got into the taxi, speeding off. The journey home felt surreal to Hannah; the ride was quiet and utterly normal compared to her previous car rides with Daddy.
Hannah unlocked the door to her apartment, pushing it open, and stepping inside the familiar space, a place she hadn’t seen in far too long. Everything felt so regular and proper; had her entire trip been a dream? The only reminder that it wasn’t was the thick diaper encasing her midsection. Hannah felt Emily’s hand caressing her heart, whispering into her ear, “It looks like my baby had an accident or two; maybe we should get you changed soon.”
Hannah giggled, falling onto the couch as Emily joined her, pulling the backpack into her lap. “Anything for you, Mommy.” Hannah grinned.
Emily chuckled, opening the pack and rummaging through. Hannah saw Emily’s smile dissipate as she pulled out a manila envelope. She gave Hannah a curious look before popping it open—inside contained contact information for Daddy, as well as a handwritten letter and photos. The photos were taken from the cruise, from Hannah sitting atop the elegant throne to the silly family photos they took with the photographer. Hannah held them reverently as Emily read the note, handing it to her, tears in her eyes.
My Sweet girls,
I’m writing this on the day of your return home. I wanted to let you know how much you both mean to me. From the day I met you, I fell in love. I always saw myself as a Daddy, and being with you made me the happiest I have ever been in my entire life. I never knew that two girls could bring me so much joy; please know that my life was made better by you two being in it. I will hold and cherish our memories together forever, and I look forward to making new ones when you both visit again. I can not wait to plan our next vacation together.
I love you both,
Daddy.

Postscript
Thank you for reading; I genuinely appreciate everyone who came together to help support me on this epic journey. I originally started Crossing Worlds as something to do when I was bored, and I quickly realized I wanted something far grander than just a short little story. I originally ended this book shortly after the first day the girls went to school, having them return home. Daddy was shrunk down to become a Little and joined them, but it felt rushed, and there was so much more I wanted to explore. Still, as I’m writing this and proofreading the ending, there’s more I want to write, but the first book needed a natural conclusion, and I felt I found one. While I have more in the works for this particular story, I am not actively writing it at this time; I have other stories that need to be told.
What started as a short story ballooned out to be over 500 pages! I can’t believe it. As an avid reader, most of the books I read are between the 300 and 400 mark, and this exceeds that, passing 150,000 words. I originally posted only on Reddit and Wattpad, but with complications over the site, I left Wattpad and began my site. As much as I love Reddit, it is NOT a great platform to read stories on, and I wanted to create something much better.
This story is truly a labor of love. Between setting up a new website, posting between different sites, storyboarding, writing, editing, proofreading, posting, publishing, and site maintenance, I have poured well over 250 hours into bringing this story to you. If you read this on my site, thank you. I do not charge a cent for my work, I do not run ads on it, and it’s not cheap, but it’s a hobby and passion of mine that I want to share with you. At the publication of my final chapter, I am releasing this story on Kindle, and if you enjoyed reading it and want to show me support, you can purchase it or donate directly on my website at solarascott.com, or, if you’d like a story of your own commissioned, you may do so as well! I love bringing others happiness and joy, and it would be an honor for me to write for you.
I am well in the works of my next novel, and I can not wait to bring it to you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, and I look forward to sharing more thrilling stories with you.
